Chet and Mahala Schuler Stumph were married in Kansas City. Chet worked across the street from the Ford Motor Company and, each day after work, he would buy one part for his 'dream car' and carry it home on the trolley.
By the time Dad was 2, the family was ready to move west. Chet and Mahala packed their three kids and a LOT of tools into that car...and Dad remembers playing with a hammer that 'somehow' broke the windshield just a few miles out of town. He couldn't even blame it on his sisters because everyone 'knew'
girls didn't use tools!
